A Thousand Miles to Miao Villages, Complying with the Mission with Benevolent Medical Hearts
The "Love Brightness Campaign" is a charitable medical livelihood initiative established under the framework of Guangdong-Guizhou east-west cooperation. It addresses the prominent problem of high cataract prevalence among elderly residents in Songtao Miao Autonomous County. Restricted by insufficient local medical resources and household financial constraints, a large number of elderly Miao villagers have suffered from cataracts for years. Unable to afford surgical treatment, their quality of life has been severely impaired. Upon learning of the launch of this program, Humen Aier Eye Hospital immediately dispatched Dr. Liu Fan, a clinician with extensive experience and expertise in precise micro-incision cataract surgery, to provide medical support in Guizhou Province.

Dr. Liu Fan has practiced clinical ophthalmology for many years and gained profound experience in diagnosing and treating common eye disorders including cataracts and glaucoma. He is especially adept at precise manipulations for all types of cataract surgeries.
After receiving the medical assistance assignment, he quickly packed his belongings and embarked on the trip to Songtao together with the expert team from Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital.
"As an ophthalmologist, I feel honored and duty-bound to use my professional expertise to help grassroots people regain clear vision," Dr. Liu Fan remarked before his departure.

Upon arriving in Songtao, the medical team wasted no time recovering from the exhausting journey and immediately threw themselves into intensive work. Working closely with the ophthalmology team at the People’s Hospital of Songtao Miao Autonomous County, Dr. Liu Fan took part in preoperative screening and patient assessments, and customized surgical plans to ensure every patient received treatment tailored to their individual conditions.
As of May 14, a total of 138 cataract patients eligible for surgery had undergone the procedure successfully. During the operations, Dr. Liu Fan demonstrated consummate expertise, performing every step with meticulous precision — from disinfection and anesthesia to intraocular lens implantation. He also spoke gently with patients to ease their anxiety.
"Dr. Liu is so kind. He kept talking to me throughout the surgery, so I was not scared at all," one recovered patient expressed gratefully.

"Everything used to be blurry, but now I can even make out the bamboo growing on distant hills after taking off the gauze. I’m so grateful to the Party, the government and Dr. Liu for curing my eyes without costing me a penny," she said emotionally.
Standing beside her and witnessing Grandma Wu’s excitement, Dr. Liu Fan wore a gratified smile. "The happiest moment for us doctors is seeing patients regain their sight. This special ‘Mother’s Day gift’ is more precious than anything else," he remarked.

While carrying out cataract surgeries, the medical team fulfilled the role of "passing on expertise to foster local talents" and shared their clinical experience and surgical techniques with local medical staff without reservation.
During intervals between operations, Dr. Liu Fan delivered on-site training to ophthalmologists at the People’s Hospital of Songtao County. He elaborated on key operational procedures of cataract surgery, prevention of postoperative complications and other professional knowledge. He also shared diagnostic and treatment strategies for complex eye conditions through case studies, systematically improving local doctors’ capacity to deliver independent medical care.

In fact, Humen Aier Eye Hospital has long taken an active part in medical assistance under the Guangdong-Guizhou Cooperation Program. As early as 2025, the hospital joined the Songtao assistance initiative led by Liu Fei, Regional Chief Director of Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital, to provide local residents with surgical demonstration training, ward rounds and other medical services. Dr. Liu Fan’s latest trip represents another key measure taken by Humen Aier Eye Hospital to deepen bilateral medical support.
Moving forward, anchored by the Dongguan-Songtao Ophthalmology Alliance, Humen Aier Eye Hospital will keep sending outstanding medical staff to participate in assistance programs. It will ramp up efforts in technical support, talent cultivation and discipline development, contributing its share to the high-quality development of eye health services in Songtao.

Dongguan Humen Aier Eye Hospital will always stay true to its original aspiration for public welfare and faithfully fulfill the social responsibilities of a medical institution. The hospital will regularly engage in targeted cross-regional medical support, charitable treatment for eye diseases, grassroots eye health education and other livelihood initiatives. It will keep extending premium eye care resources to underdeveloped areas and safeguard clear, bright vision for all people through tangible actions.
