Recently, with cutting-edge equipment and technical support from the Refractive Shared Platform of Aier Eye Hospital Dongguan Region, Dr. Yang Xiaofeng, Director of the Refractive Surgery Department at Humen Aier Eye Hospital, has successfully performed the first batch of next-generation robotic SMILE Pro surgeries. This achievement demonstrates the hospital’s technical expertise rooted in Dongguan Binhaiwan, meets the widespread demand of myopia patients in Dongguan Binhaiwan and surrounding areas including Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan for intelligent and precise ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment, and ushers in a high-quality new vision.

Aier Eye Hospital Group Sets an Industry Benchmark with Tens of Thousands of Surgeries

The next-generation robotic SMILE Pro technology represents a revolutionary upgrade to the classic SMILE technique. Boasting three core advantages — ultra-fast performance, intelligence and enhanced safety, it is steering refractive surgery into a new intelligent era and leading the track of the new-generation minimally invasive SMILE technology. To date, the total number of robotic SMILE Pro procedures performed across China has exceeded 40,000. Among them, Aier Eye Hospital Group has made an outstanding contribution of 10,000 surgeries and been awarded the Contribution Award for Breakthroughs among Chinese Ophthalmic Hospital Groups. Statistically, one out of every four domestic patients opting for SMILE Pro places their trust in Aier Eye Hospital.

As one of the nation’s earliest medical institutions to carry out robotic SMILE Pro procedures, Dongguan Aier Eye Hospital was the first facility to introduce the next-generation robotic VISUMAX 800 system and perform SMILE Pro surgeries. It has accumulated 200 clinical cases to date, laying solid practical experience for the clinical application of this technology. Leveraging equipment resources from the Refractive Shared Platform of Aier Eye Hospital Dongguan Region, the hospital successfully completed the first batch of such surgeries in the Binhaiwan area.

The first batch of robotic SMILE Pro surgeries at Humen Aier Eye Hospital were performed by Dr. Yang Xiaofeng, Director of the Refractive Surgery Department. The operations were conducted on Xiaoqing, a 25-year-old overseas student studying at an Australian university, and Xiao Wu, an assistant in the Optometry Department and hospital staff member with stringent requirements for visual quality.

Dr. Yang Xiaofeng, Director of the Refractive Surgery Department, holds an eight-year doctoral degree in ophthalmology from Sun Yat-sen University. He is a member of the Youth Physician Committee of the Guangdong Eye Health Association. With in-depth expertise in refractive surgery, he is a certified surgeon for the next-generation robotic VISUMAX 800 system, the minimally invasive precise SMILE 4.0-VISULYZE™ technology, global SMILE surgery, and Contoura Vision.

He explained that the SMILE Pro technology features an innovative laser scanning mechanism, drastically cutting the scanning time for one eye from the traditional 23 seconds to under 10 seconds and greatly improving surgical efficiency. Equipped with an intelligent dual-navigation system that enables automatic pupil center identification and real-time calibration of ocular rotation, it delivers micron-level positioning accuracy. Furthermore, the original dual robotic arm design enhances operational flexibility, allowing the procedure to achieve both speed and stability and offering patients a more precise and safe treatment experience.

Deeply Rooted in Dongguan Binhaiwan, Building a Comprehensive Myopia Correction Solution Matrix

In the future, Humen Aier Eye Hospital will further refine its service model featuring "intelligent technology + platform sharing", and commit itself to developing comprehensive myopia correction solutions. The hospital offers more than ten advanced surgical procedures, including ICL lens implantation, full photoplastic surgery, minimally invasive SMILE surgery, customized Contoura series surgery, presbyopia correction surgery and femtosecond LASIK. Supported by the six major quality control systems for myopia surgery of Aier Eye Hospital Group, the hospital tailors safe and accurate vision improvement solutions for each patient based on their individual eye conditions and personalized eye-use needs. It strives to make cutting-edge technological advances accessible to more local residents and continuously fulfill the lofty mission of enabling everyone to enjoy the right to eye health.
